Sukpatch
Lite Hits
In the early ’90s, a loose network of like-minded artists—Sukpatch, Land of the Loops, and The Ah Club—were crafting a scrappy, sample-happy strain of lo-fi pop. They collaborated across projects, passing cassette tapes through the mail and layering ideas until songs emerged, charmingly imperfect and surprisingly infectious.
Lite Hits, originally released on cassette by Slabco in 1992, captured Sukpatch in a particularly fruitful moment. The group combined jangly, low-key indie pop with tape loops, playful sampling, and an off-the-cuff experimental spirit. Vocals by Tara—who only appears on this release—were recorded at half-speed and then pitched up, resulting in a delightfully high, sugary tone that added an oddball magic to the whole affair.
There’s a warm, wistful nostalgia baked into these tracks—summery melodies and hazy textures that feel like childhood memories just out of reach. Now available on vinyl for the first time via Concentric Circles, Lite Hits is brief, buoyant, and addictive. The moment it ends, you’ll want to play it all over again.
