Cold In Berlin
Wounds
Cold in Berlin return with their fifth album Wounds, their first in six years and their most ambitious statement yet. As heavy as it is hypnotic, the record fuses doom, post-punk and driving krautrock, pushing the cult London band into bold new territory.
Vocalist Maya describes the album as “a strange celebration of that formative pain we have all experienced in some way – the loss and joy of survival, the gift of knowing life comes after fire.” Lead single ‘Hangman’s Daughter’ sets the tone, shifting from pulsing techno bass to jagged guitars and towering choruses, telling a story of unrequited love and violence that echoes into the present day.
Recorded with Mike Bew at Foel Studio in the Welsh countryside, the sessions captured both atmosphere and intensity, with amps borrowed from My Bloody Valentine and the studio’s rich history – including sessions by Electric Wizard, Hawkwind and The Fall – adding further weight. Berlin-based collaborator Bow Church provides synth arrangements, weaving icy textures throughout.
