Eddie Fowlkes – Deepcover (MUGA)
When it comes to Detroit, Eddie Fowlkes isn’t perhaps as celebrated as some other producers. But there’s no denying his touch for techno soul. But there’s no denying his touch for techno soul. Previously released on the 1993 Juan Atkins complied CD-only compilation ‘Magic Tracks (Deep Detroit Volume Two)’, the original of ‘Deepcover’ is wickedly wiggly, Fowlkes coaxing plaintive melodies from his machines that feel on the verge of coalescing into words. Casa Voyager’s OCB then twists this source material into two modern takes. His ‘Electrofunk Mix’ adds a West Coast funk leaning to uptempo Motorcity electro, coming on like Mr De' at his funkiest, while his 'Slowmotion Mix' heads into ‘90s downtempo, rolling sweetly with breakbeats and squelchy acid. \n \n
