R-Zone
R-Zone - R-Zone 12 (R-Zone)
An offshoot of Dutch label Crème Organization, R-Zone has been releasing EPs since 2013 – all the artist anonymously listed simply as R-Zone. While these haven’t all been entirely to our taste, the label’s put out a couple of notable hardcore/breakbeat flavoured 12”s. \n \nCut from a similar cloth to R-Zone 5, which Discogs does actually credit as Gerd Janson and Lauer, it’s possible R-Zone 12 is the duo again. It certainly sound like it on the opening synths of ‘Beginning Of Life’, which drops into loon calls and acid. ‘Hardcore Track’ goes route one, bleeps and rave stabs set to 11, while ‘3-2-1’ chucks hip-hop and house vocals over rough breaks. ‘Red Rave #1’ then unleashes a Reese under more squeaks, bleeps and breaks, while ‘Red Rave #2’ nods to the steppers. \n \nAs the subtext free, generic titles suggest, what you make of this depends on how much you love the ‘90s source material. But if that’s up your alley, there’s a charm that’s hard to resist. \n \n
