Berkley Playaz – Give It Up Baby/In Da Place (Un-Disputed Records)

You probably didn’t have to grow up in ‘90s to spot where the references in the remixes on this release  – ‘Monkey Tennis’ and ‘Inner City Sumo' – are from. But they definitely date it to the latter part of the decade, 1997 to be exact. \n \nIt’s the Ruff Driverz remix of ‘Give It Up Baby’ that takes centre stage, ticking the boxes of various revivalist sounds. With skippy garage drums, its got the kind of offbeat bassline that even the likes of Call Super are now playing, its resonance slowly opening and closing to give it an acidic appeal. The piano and string breakdowns, the second featuring a plucked lead, then land somewhere between euphoric UK prog and trance, before launching back into the bumping beats. \n \nIf you like that then the original of ‘In Da Place’ should appeal as well, a pumped up UK take on Strictly Rhythm with chopped vocals, organs and heavily grooving drums. \n \nSmell my cheese you mother. \n \nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xHbWbbt1DOU&ab_channel=ALLTHINGSOLDSKOOL%28THEEORACLE%29 \n \nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjYjm0roKuc&t=2s&ab_channel=yeyolo55
