C.S.L. – Work It/Run Free (Nucleus)

A subsidiary of Sheffield’s finest, Warp Records, Nucleus was intended to be more dancefloor facing. As well as providing a home to the likes of Chris Duckenfield’s RAC and Rhythm Invention, they put out one release from C.S.L. – better known as Coco, Steel & Lovebomb. \n \n‘Work It’ comes in two iterations and highlights the influence of New York house and disco that would pervade the UK trio’s debut album the next year. The ‘Tough Bitch’ mix is deep and throbbing, its camp vocal paired with a proggy lead. The alternate ‘Tough’ mix adds a more garagey skip, helped no doubt by the sadly departed Roger ‘Wildchild’ McKenzie on the mix. \n \nOn the flip ‘Run Free’ also comes with dual variations, detuned disco vocals, rattling percussion and a wandering bassline providing a dose of dubbed-out funk. \n \nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XebuKr4Gek8 \n \nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NXXdiG-LC6M&t=116s \n \nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-CmvuL6lpkA&t=1s
