The first and best release on short-lived UK house label Music Institute Records, Ciao Lee Tong is an alias of producer Marco Funari.  \n \nAs the label’s Detroit-referencing name suggests, this is deep, melodic, soul-stirring stuff that kicks off with the sublime ‘Session’, a spoken word vocal and nagging synthetic sax giving way to the funkiest of basses. ‘Dance Fusion’ is darker but no less groovy, sparse percussion wrapped around another penetrating bassline before euphoric piano reveals its UK roots. ‘Deep In My Heart’ rattles along under expertly layered percussion, jazzy interludes interspersed with raw funk.
